Aerial Drone

Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)

Regarding my own work with an aerial drone, some people have asked me how fast it can fly, how far can it fly, or how high it can fly? Honestly, I don’t care about fast, far, or very high. For my purposes, an aerial drone provides a remote camera up in the air. You can find examples in my photo galleries here or my YouTube channel.

Having years of experience flying aerial photographic missions, my creative vision has changed such that I commonly pre-visualize images from a higher viewpoint. For any given subject, I consider the perspective from thirty feet in the air, maybe one hundred feet, maybe three hundred feet. Sometimes a hand-held camera is the right tool; sometimes an aerial camera is the right tool.
Having decades of experience in photography, I am a better aerial photographer than some other folks who are qualified remote pilots without the photographic background. For example, if I am photographing real estate property, I check the orientation of the property and when the light be best for the particular subject. I always consider the quality and direction of light.

• Certified as a remote pilot in the United States by the FAA (according to FAA part 107)
