wait a few minutes.\u00a0 With regard to outdoor photography, the same thing can often be said about the quality of the light:\u00a0 if you don&#8217;t like the light &#8230; wait a few minutes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kevindavisphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/P6280011.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-198\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kevindavisphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/P6280011-222x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"222\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kevindavisphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/P6280011-222x300.jpg 222w, https:\/\/www.kevindavisphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/P6280011.jpg 395w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 222px) 100vw, 222px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Case in point, the attached photos of Purple Fringe.\u00a0 The first shot was captured in open sun\u00a0near mid day.\u00a0 Bright light like this causes not just shadows, but hard-edged shadows (transition from light to shadow is crisp rather than soft).\u00a0 This is sometimes refered to as hard light.<\/p>\n<p>For the second image, I simply waited for clouds to obscure the sun, resulting in soft light.\u00a0 This eliminates the harsh shadows, but the image looses overal contrast.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind that light can change quickly and can greatly impact the mood of an image.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kevindavisphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/P6280013.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-199\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kevindavisphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/P6280013-220x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kevindavisphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/P6280013-220x300.jpg 220w, https:\/\/www.kevindavisphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/P6280013.jpg 391w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 220px) 100vw, 220px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 The second image here was captured 3 minutes after the first image.<\/p>\n<p>Typically, I prefer soft light or side light.\u00a0 I prefer the second image.\u00a0 (Many outdoor photographers will tell you that mid-day hard light is &#8220;bad light&#8221;.)<\/p>\n<p>However, both images suffer from cluttered background of grasses.\u00a0 Perhaps I was so enamored with this amazing flower that I did not pay attention to the background.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t recall.\u00a0 A lower camera angle might have helped eliminate the grasses from the photo, but likely not enough.\u00a0Perhaps the only recourse here is to walk away from this plant and find a different Purble Fringe with less grass nearby.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In some parts of the world, the weather is known to change quickly and\u00a0people often say: If you don&#8217;t like the weather &#8230;
