The scene is remarkable in particular because a solitary person appears quite small and provides the viewer a sense of scale.  This mountain is unlike any other east of the Mississippi River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I created this photograph during a solo visit to Katahdin.  After spending the night at Chimney Pond, I arose early and ascended a very steep trail up to the top of the ridge.
